Is adoption right for me?
Adoption is a wonderful alternative to single parenthood that is overlooked by many women. It may be the right thing for you if any of the following are true:
- You feel too young to be a parent
- You aren’t sure how to support a child emotionally or physically
- You don’t want to be a parent but don’t want an abortion
- You lack a strong support system
- You want to focus on school or your career
Each year, over 50,000 women in the U.S. choose adoption for their children. Many women believe that following through with adoption would be too hard for them. The fact is that, whatever decision you make, it will be hard.
With adoption, you can be reassured that you did everything in your power to give your child the best possible opportunities in life. Those who are approved to adopt go through rigorous screenings to ensure they will take excellent care of the children that come into their families. Couples and families who are waiting to adopt will treasure and love your child as their own.
What will I be in control OF if I choose adoption?
Of all your options, adoption gives you the most control and flexibility. You have the power to choose the family that adopts your child, as well as how much contact – if any – you will have with your child once he or she has been adopted. In some cases, you can have baby-related things paid for by the adoptive family. If you choose adoption, your caseworker will be able to provide more details about finances.
Ray of Hope is not an adoption agency and does not act as one. We are independent of adoption agencies and are simply here to listen and help you understand your options. If you are interested in adoption, schedule an appointment with us, and we can refer you to adoption facilitators and other helpful resources.
